Welcome to Discovering Logic Pro
Discovering Logic Pro is an inspiring, musical guide through your first steps with Logic Pro. Assuming no prior knowledge of this leading music production software, this course puts your creativity first, encouraging you to learn through play.
Within minutes you’ll be recording, editing, exploring, sound designing and, above all, making music.
The Course
The balance between learning the technical capabilities of any piece of software and its creative potential isn't always an easy one to strike.
Most courses dedicated to learning Logic Pro take the form of a 'video manual', where the possibilities are explained without always providing an inspiring musical context.
Imagine learning Logic Pro from a purely musical perspective? What if you could make a recording within just a few minutes of opening the program for the first time? It's interesting to consider what your following questions might be. Do you want to erase and replace that recording? Do you want to edit it, to keep the strong parts and to fix any mistakes? Do you want to add a second instrument to begin to build an arrangement? Or do you want to start to shape and develop the sounds played by the notes you've recorded?
Using musical intuition, Discovering Logic Pro assumes no prior technical knowledge whilst guiding you to a stage where you're able to build multitrack arrangements, understand how to shape sounds, add effects, correct musical mistakes and build complex, immersive tracks of your own.
What you will Learn
I'm keen to unlock your creative choices within Logic Pro as quickly as possible, so we're going to start experimenting with sound immediately.
I'll show you how to audition and record Logic's Software Instruments, adding accompanying musical parts to help build arrangements quickly.
We'll learn how to handle the 'mistakes' everyone makes, whether they're wrong notes, or timing inaccuracies.
As well as recording parts live, Logic's Editors and Pattern Sequencers offer alternative routes to creativity, as do Live Loops workflows, all of which we'll uncover too.
And that's just the start - this course will take you through your first Mixing steps and into Automation, whilst a series of Index chapters will provide deeper dives into Logic's Instruments and FX, as well as explaining how Logic fits into a musical ecosystem with MIDI keyboards, external synths and Audio interfacing.
- Record and edit music sequences, exploring

I’m Jono Buchanan. I’m a composer and producer specialising in music for TV and Production Music. I write extensively for some of the largest broadcasters around the world, having also worked on films, documentaries, composed for sports broadcasts and much more besides. I’ve always been a huge fan of electronic dance music too and in the early to mid 2000s, worked as a producer of remixes for some of the biggest pop acts of the day, including Whitney Houston, Pet Shop Boys, Shania Twain and LeAnn Rimes.
I have been a visiting lecturer at London’s prestigious Guildhall School of Music & Drama for 25 years. Despite a busy life as a media composer, I’ve never been able to stop myself wanting to teach - I love seeing creativity unlocked in anyone who wants to learn more. For me, the mix of composing, producing and being fascinated by developments in music technology have all developed side-by-side.
YouTube has provided a platform to offer free Logic Pro instruction and on the Jono Buchanan Music channel, a new longer-form video and a Short are posted every week. My Teachable courses will let you take your knowledge deeper, as they're all designed to allow you to unlock your creativity in a more immersive and focused way.
